Matthew 2:16-18

Matthew 2:16-18

16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:

18 “A voice is heard in Ramah,
weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”

The jealousy and fear of a “king” led him to act out in the most horrific way to maintain control and snuff out the True King. He failed. Matthew Henry writes that those toddlers that died were martyrs – they were murdered because of Jesus. Jesus messes things up. I’m glad that he does.

This is not easy, it is often difficult to stomach. We often want to trust the pseudo-kings instead of the True King who reigns sovereign over heaven and earth. This passage is deep and can leave one stunned. This is okay.

Pray to God has you read His Words today for help in understanding and peace in knowing His truths and His plans.

Open His Word and Enjoy – sometimes this is easy and sometimes this is hard – but it is all about growing in Christ Jesus. You will make it my friends! He will see you through! Journey with the One True King today.
