Matthew 4:18-22

Matthew 4:18-22

18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.

21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus calls his first disciples and they IMMEDIATELY left what they were doing to follow him. Jesus did not say “Follow me” but He said “Follow me and I will MAKE YOU fishers of men” – There was a task to be done, a mission to accomplish. They dropped what they were doing and followed Jesus.

I often like to carry a big stack of life when I follow behind Jesus; maybe you do too. It would be wise to lighten our load; Jesus says he will help us with this. He will provide the task and he knows are given trade (skills, talents, personalities, passions), he can use all of it and all of us to accomplish His mission. What is His mission? Read John 17:3.

Open His Word and Enjoy!
